Our very first runner spotlight… Adam Gockowski!

Each week leading up to race day we will be highlighting one runner that has registered for the 15th Annual Hermes Cleveland 10 Miler. This runner could be new to the race or could have run the event in the past.

Our very first spotlighted runner is Adam Gockowski! Adam ran the Hermes Cleveland 10 Miler for the first time last year. Here is a little information about Adam:

Why do you register for 10 Miler yearly? If you haven’t done it before why did you register this year?

“In 2018, I ran the Hermes 10 Miler for the first time as a way to train for the Cleveland Half Marathon. The 10 Miler was 3 weeks prior to the half and I knew that this race would be perfect for my preparation. I’m a Lakewood resident and I work in Downtown Cleveland, so I was extremely familiar with Edgewater Park and the roads that the course took place on. This year, I will be running in the Cleveland Full Marathon and the Hermes 10 Miler is a no brainer once again! Everything from the course route, race date, distance, everything…The Hermes 10 Miler is the perfect race for me & my marathon training!”

What do you like about the race?

“My favorite thing about the Hermes 10 Miler is running underneath in the tunnels! I have always been a fan of running through underground tunnels, like Super Mario in level 2 of the original game! I’m also a big fan of where the finish line is, right next to Lake Erie! Nothing beats finishing a race with a beautiful scenery!”

What does running races do for you?

“Running races has done a ton for me! In order to stay in shape, I register for races early in t

he year. I signed up for at least one race a month, every month. This keeps me focused on making sure that I’m exercising and dieting. I will register for everything from 5Ks to Full Marathons! Away from the sport itself, I love being a part of the pre & post-race events. It’s great to be a part of a community of such supporting people!”

What are your running/athletic goals for 2019:

“I have a lot of running goals for 2019, but the biggest is growing my running club, “Acey McGlockstar Runnin Club.” My running club

was officially established in 2018 as a way to encourage friends & family to get back into shape, with a strong focus on mental health. The club is named after “Acey McGlockstar,” my comedic 1970s Cleveland Indians Alter Ego (Tomato Red Jerseys, Mutton Chops, and Aviator sunglasses). I wanted Acey McGlockstar to be the name of my group because it symbolizes that you can still have fun while working your butt off!

Sports, as a whole, doesn’t come natural to everyone & a lot of people get discourage immediately. By creating this group, it’s my way of providing a welcoming & healthy environment for all. The official Instagram page of Acey McGlockstar Runnin Club (@aceymcglockstarrunclub) has been a blast operating! I post about upcoming local registered races, weekly brewery running clubs, Friday 6AM running meet ups called “AM in the AM”, mental health advice, meal prep recipes, and much more. Without a doubt, my favorite part of the Instagram page is highlighting my followers/teammates when they join me at running clubs and/or at races! It’s fun to show the group everyone’s hard work. By this time next year, I hope to have team t-shirts! As the saying goes, “Look Good, Play Good!” 2019 is going to be a very exciting year for Acey McGlockstar Runnin Club and I’m excited for every mile of the journey!”
